Hi, I have a Caldigit Element dock (3 TB ports at the back + one side port to connect to the computer) but I don't have a M1 Pro/M2 Pro MacBook Pro 16" to test. I know a lot of users like to connect a MacBook Pro 16" to a TB dock using only one cable and then connect other devices and displays from the dock. What will happen if I run out of ports on the dock and end up also using the remaining two TB ports on the MacBook Pro 16"? Will it work? Any disadvantage such as running the devices at the cost that some data communication speed be lower than maximum allowable speed?

Yes you can do that. And using the TB ports on the MacBook directly won't impact the speed of the ports on the dock.
