I don’t use the feature often, but sometimes when I’m on a call, I need to enter a long string of numbers. I usually copy/paste the string into the keypad. I just tried to do that tonight, and paste no longer came up as an option.

Am I missing something, or is this no longer doable?

Why don't you just press the homebutton, open any app like Notes or whatever? Then tap at the top of the screen and go back to the call screen?

I think you’re missing my point.

I need to enter a long string of numbers into the keypad while the call is active. You can’t be looking at notes or anything while simultaneously typing numbers. It’s like 16 numbers, do not easy to remember all at once.

I used to copy the numbers, wait for the prompt on the call, and paste the numbers. The iPhone would then “press” the string of numbers for me.

How were you pasting in the numbers while in a call?

Using speakerphone, hold your finger to the space the numbers appear. It’s worked since early iOS.

MacRumors showed a similar thread from a few years back, where it was still there, but the person forgot how to paste. This is just an example of what I mean.

Also, funnily enough, I just listened to a podcast where someone returned the Essential Phone, partly because pasting the number into the keypad while on a call wasn’t possible, and he joined a lot of conference calls. That was the last straw for him.

That was in relation to the keypad before you actually started dialing, not one within the call itself, which is somewhat different, which is what prompted my question.

The only way I recall being able to do something along those lines is to dial a number with a wait/pause in it with the additional numbers after that, that way when you are in a call those additional numbers would appear as an additional button option and you could dial them at once with a press of that button at some point during the call.

Stupid question, but have you tried a power cycle? I've seen a few things that stop working once in a while (without updating iOS) and a power cycle usually restores them.

This is really a big deal.

This needs to be addressed. Preferably by someone at Apple.
I submitted a feedback report yesterday, but I wanted to make sure it wasn’t just me.

Not stupid at all, I did.

Working fine here
How are you doing this exactly during a call?

You do the same thing while in the call. I’ve been doing it for years, and all of a sudden, it’s not working.
I've tried this in iOS 10 and I still don't see how during a call (as opposed to before placing a call). Can you explain (or perhaps show somehow, maybe with a video or something like that) how it's supposed to work during a call?

I can’t, because it’s no longer working! I hope @gower2352 can.

But you literally do it just the same, as long as you’re using the speakerphone or an earpiece, and go back to the keypad. You press and hold down on the area where the number shows up, and paste shows as an option. Or used to.

I only have to do it a couple of times per year, as opposed to the guy in the podcast I heard who joins conference calls and uses the feature several times per month.

The weird thing is that I tired it on an iPhone 7 running iOS 10.3.3 basically the way you described it in a call, and didn't get any paste (or any other) option. Not sure what the difference might be, unless it's something that might be carrier dependent in some way (as some conferencing options are, for example).
