If we use to use iCloud photo Library to store and manage all our photos, can we set some options to prevent it from dumping all those photos onto our iPhones and iPads if we want? Optimized or not, I don't want access to all my cloud photos on my phone. I only want it available to my computer. I do want all photos I take with my iPhone (6) or my iPad Air to go into photo stream and up to my Photos Library. I just don't want any downloaded to my smaller devices.

Can this be done? Thanks.

You can turn iCloud Photo Library off on the devices you don't want to have it in settings-Photos. If you want access to photos you take, until they close the service, you have Photostream available. You will need to copy the streamed photos into iCloud Photo Library manually but it stops the service from putting photos on your device. Once the service it turned off (I assume it will be replaced totally with Photo Library) you will need to copy manually via desktop.

So Photo Stream will not be replaced by iCloud, for copying photos and videos taken on phone and iPads to the cloud and put them onto the computer? When Photo Stream is gone, how will photos go from iPhone to iCloud and computers?

Thanks for your reply.
