as my mobileme seems to have stopped working, if I forward my emails to a yahoo account which I load onto my iPhone would of work in the same way as mobileme. I.e will it push to phone.

O know iCal won't sync but email is priority.

I was pretty sure gmail does not do push, only yahoo. Just wanted to know if it essentially does the same thing as mobileme.

Anyone using yahoo for push on their iphone?

Yahoo Push "email" works the same as MobileMe Push "email". Of course MobileMe does much more (Contacts, Calendar Push and more).

Google doe NOT do Push Email.

You can only do Push Email with Yahoo, MobileMe and Exchange. All other accounts must be either forwarded ro pulled to one of the three above.

Gmail does not do push. Yahoo does but it has ben unreliable for me.

Gmail does do push now through their IMAP settings. I just watched a video on their site. It does say not to use the Gmail icon on the iPhone because that is POP3. Push is that new.

IMAP isn't push, you still need to fetch to get e-mails from gmail. Yahoo does push but it's spotty service for some people.

so it won't push? What's the point?

the point of setting up gmail that way? IMAP is far superior to POP, but you still have to fetch your mail.

Then you have IMAP-IDLE which is kind of like half push. This is supported on Apple Mail but not on the iphone and not on gmail anyway.

And finally there is p-imap, which is true push, and i believe is the server technology apple is using for mobileme.

Right, GMAIL does not support PUSH. The mail is normally setup to automatically check for new email (Fetch) every 15 min.

Push Email like Yahoo Push, MobileMe Push, and Exchange Push means that as soon as the mail is received my the mail server it is "Pushed" to the iPhone. In this case you can receive your email up to 15 min sooner then without Push. You could also argue (don't want to start here) that Push uses less battery then Fetch because if you have very little mail the iPhone does not do the every 15 min check for email routines.

There is a lot of talk about GMAIL Push and maybe we will see it in the future.
