Is it possible to use AirPlay to Mac mini? I heard someone developed a program but that it didn't work too well, but this was a while ago. I can't find it though, forgot what it was called. So does anyone know? It'd be sweet

I see. Which of the three mentioned in here is the best you think? It looks like banana tv is only video and photo while airfoil is only audio.

If you're looking for an AirPlay solution, then AirFoil isn't for you. It's not implementing AirPlay but rather it's own proprietary solution - so you would need the AirFoil software on both your streaming source and player.

BananaTV actually has both video/photo and audio streaming. The encryption for audio streaming was just recently hacked, and the BananaTV author implemented it. However, BananaTV is $7.99 while AirMac is free and open source. If you're willing to wait, it appears as though audio streaming will be added soon for AirMac.

Haven't tried AirMac, but I can attest that BananaTV works quite well. Streaming music, video, and slideshows (from the iPhone Photos app) all work without a hitch. I use it with my HTPC setup, it's fantastic.

Time will tell which of the two end up with more features, but $8 ain't that much, so there's nothing stopping you from trying both.

can anyone with Banana TV tell me if a photo or video starts up in full screen? I just installed airmac and unfortunately it just opens photos and videos in a small box (just like when you open a file directly on your mac) rather than opening in full screen instantly. It's a small matter, I know, but it means that I have to use the mouse to click the full screen button on the screen. So my question is if Banana TV starts in full screen instantly or is it the same as Airmac?

Thanks!

StreamToMe is an APP in the Mac Store that works great. I have the server set up on my W7 Media PC and stream to my Mac mini and my iPad all the time.

For AirMac, just change the settings to make it open full screen automatically.

Damn i was too impatient and went and bought banana tv because of the full screen thing :) anyway I noticed with Airmac that sometimes the AirPlay icon doesn't appear, so I'm hoping Banana TV is more stable/gets updated more frequently since it's a paid program.

Now they just need to allow for whole apps to be AirPlayed (like iBooks or Internet browsing for instance) but I guess that requires apple to allow it or some sick jailbreak hacking

I found this in a google search. Anyone try it? Seems like it does what I want to do (airplay from my iPhone to a Mac Mini). Five bucks though :(

Yes, I use that on my Mac Mini and it works great!
The only issue is sometimes I need to start QuickTime before I can play a video from AirPlay. Everything else is seamless.

Is there an app that works on Lion and iOS 5 and doesn't require me to go through paypal to get? I downloaded banana tv and it does not support ios5 anymore. AirMac server says it is running but it does not show up on iPhone. Airplayer goes so far as to show up on the iPhone, but as I select the iMac on my iPhone, it says operation could not be completed.

It looks like all the alternate AirPlay solutions are broken with iOS 5.

I am getting serious issues with TV-Out and AirPlay on various iOS devices, even though they are all updated to the latest build. So even if you had an Apple TV you might have trouble with AirPlay from an iOS 5 device (such as flashing picture and loud popping sounds, somehow causing permanent physical damage to TV).

If anyone has an Apple TV and an iPhone 4S give mirroring a try and let me know.

Update: It looks like my HDMI cable and TV both started having issues simultaneously. I tried another HDMI cable and plugged into a different HDMI port and it looks like the issue I was having went away. Though I just bought that cable a few weeks ago.
