Like many, I’m interested in the AirPods Max, but likely wouldn’t purchase them myself. However, my job has a program where they give “appreciation points” that you can redeem for products on an internal store. They actually carry AirPods and are suppose to carry the Max next year.

If I redeem their point to “buy” AirPods can I purchase Apple Care after even if I don’t know when the third party bought them?

I don’t see why not. Shouldn’t be any different than buying a new unopened device on Swappa (or wherever) and adding AC+ once you’ve activated it. Heck, I’ve bought used activated iPhones that were in the window for AC+ to be added and bought AC+ for them. The only hitch might be that Apple recommends keeping the receipt for your AC+ covered device. Not sure how your employers reward points translate into purchasing the device.

Yes, you certainly can. When you first set up your device, you will be able to purchase AppleCare + for a period of time after they are first used.
Thank you both! I've worked there for four years and checked it today after than announcements and realized I had nearly $900 in "points," so I figured this would be a decent buy (unless the reviews say it's a dud). I don't mind paying for Apple Care on free headphones.
