I have AppleID1 ( used for purchases)

When mobileme came about i had to make another address ( username@me.com and this now also appears to become it's own independant AppleID since the crossover)

When icloud came out, while signed in as AppleID1 on my phone it asked to make an icloud address/sign into icloud. I tried username@me.com but it wouldnt allow it as its tied to another apple ID. So, i had to make another username2@me.com

Now whenever i setup my phone and sign in as appleid1, it defaults to using username2@me.com as my icloud EVERY TIME.

Can I change something somewhere to tell it that username1@me.com is my preffered choice?

I tried apple online chat support, and they said to phone them. I phoned them and they said to goto online chat.....

You can manage you Apple IDs here:
See the link Manage your Account.
https://appleid.apple.com

I am not sure if you can do what you want but that is the location for making changes that are allowed. I think by using AppleID1 for iCloud you may have messed things up. I think you should have converted the MM Account to iCloud and not used the AppleID1.

For me, I have 1 AppleID for my iTunes and the App Store Purchases. I do not use that ID for anything else. That would be your AppleID1.

For iCloud I converted my MobileMe Account over to iCloud and it was a @me.com account (did the same for my wife) but I kept my iTunes Account clean.

thanks for the reply,
The thing is my mobileme account had expired and i could no longer access.
I presumed it had been reassigned to a new user who had subscribed after i cancelled mobileme as my passwords were working etc and it said inactive account.

Now randomly though I found i could login to apple using that old mobile username so it had somehow been reactivated and THEN i found if i went through the migrate mobileme>icloud page it worked!

I don't seem to be the only one in this mess judging by the apple support forums. Apple needs to make it so you can merge these accounts as the 2nd appleid is basically dormant but has an icloud attached to it.
