I have an iphone SE from many years ago. I have the power adapter from years ago. I also buy a new charging cable every year or so off amazon with very good reviews since my charging cable always gets a bit damaged. Such as instead of the long wiring part being white like brand new, its rusted and you see the color wearing out and its brown. I assume many of you have this issue with these charging cables?

Now I heard about malware/virus with usb ports etc. Such as if you plug your iphone into a public outlet, you should get one of those malware usb so you cannot get malware and virus.

A question I have is this. Let say you have your usb power adapter and charging cable that you use with your iphone. And let say you lend it to someone for a bit. Then they give it back to you. Is it possible that they could return to you malware somehow? Thus when you connect your iphone to it when charging the next time, you get malware/virus?

Let's assume they are returning to you the exact same usb power adapter and your charging cable?

Then

Let's assume they return to you their own usb power adapter and charging cable which looks identical to the one you lent them. Is it possible in this second situation for someone who is tech/hacker savy to do something like this if they have the time? Or if they already have these made and switch them with yours only to return the malware type power adapter/charging cable?

I heard that lot of hackers try to make these cables or usb to hack people electronic devices. So curious on these two scenarios.

Do you routinely lend your charging cable and power adapter to sophisticated hackers or technologically savvy foreign spies? If not, you have nothing to worry about. If so, stop doing that - they probably have their own already.

Yes it is possible but if you are the paranoid type you can just stick to using your own cable and should be fine, plus probably low chance of running into this. (not sure if the latest iOS patches this cable)
