Can you get more than 2GB RAM to work in a MacBook?

Admittedly a little overkill, but I was wondering about the 2GB RAM limit. Is that a hardware thing so that each slot can only support 1GB? Would the computer work if I stuck a 2GB DIMM into a slot?

I believe that the current MacBook (2.0 and 2.16 GHz) now support 3 GB of RAM.

I believe the limit was 3.2GB if you used 2x2GB DIMM's.

I've seen 3.25-3.4 GB on a Napa based laptop running Windows XP. I think that OS X just cuts it at 3 GB.
