can you get refund for the replacement machine?

i might be getting a replacement machine (MBP, 17") from a B&M apple retail store... has anyone been able to (and did) return it and get a refund for it?

i was comtemplating on (if i can get a refund) getting either another MBP(likely 15") or a MP... but since i haven't decided, i want to keep my option open... so hence the question

has anyone done this before?

(i want to thank everyone in advance for providing information in this regard, but please refrain from telling me this is in your opinion immoral or inappropriate if you haven't done it. but do tell me if you know for a fact, either told by apple employee or have a link on apple's website, this is against apple's policy)

I may have missed the moral bus on this one but if you bought a machine that turned out to be a lemon of sorts and Apple issues you another then what is the moral wrongdoing in actually returning it? I'm not sure but it seems to be something that was on your mind so I am asking you not anyone else.

But to answer your question I do not think you can return it. I'm not entirely sure but as far as I know your warranty and such runs from original purchase date, this may be different for Apple. Again, I have seen quite a few people who wind up with a lemon of sorts and wind up selling the replacement un-opened on ebay for much more than they would get for their used machine that came problem free. Just something to think about. I don't find anything wrong in attempting to try and return it unless you have to alter or lie about some date of purchase or whatever...but you weren't asking about morals you were asking about returns.

It should be alright, unless the replacement machine is actually for a old Powerbook that Apple failed to fix after numerous attempts, and the computer is nearing the end of its warranty... where I'd just tell you to count your blessing and just take it

well... okay... the original one was a CD MBP 17"... they can't fix the whine, so they issued a C2D MBP 17"... i'm actually think i might want the 15" because originally i got 17" not for its screen size (and weight) but the FW800 and Double layer super drive, which the c2D 15" has now.

i think the warranty date is a yr from the replacement date of the new one, but even if it's for the old one, i still have like 8 months or something.

it did say on the receipt that the "return date" is 1/25, and if i open, i pay 279...

if i go for the 15" i save 300.

but when they gave me the replacement just now, i asked if i can instead of the 17" get the 15", the guy said no.

but i was thinking maybe i can take it to another store and get a refund:S

i probably won't do the ebay route unless i have to, i'm a bit too lazy to deal with all the ebay fuss... i'm not trying to make money here... just not waste money where i can save. (aka i dont need 17" at this point, can i save $300?)

also ... given i can return it and stuff...on the reciept they just gave me, it said it's $2799, but the original one i bought with student discount... do you know if they'd go back to their system and find out i used student discount and hence refund me only 2599 (+tax)? or 2799? (i don't want to push it, but just wondering :S don't kill me )

well... i use an external, i don't care for the estate... and grain-wise.. really? i haven't opened the new 17" yet, but are 15" much more prone to grain? thanks !

As far as I am concerned, the grain issue is present on most new c2d 15" MBP (also on the glossies).

How did you return it? did they ask for a receipt? what store?
