Hello,

So I'm thinking about getting an 2017 iMac 4k baseline with/ 256 GB SSD instead of the default 1 TB HDD. I hope with Black Friday I will be able to save some of that wasted $200 as that should be standard in the year 2017 .

Or and Late 2015 iMac 4k baseline with same 256GB SSD upgrade.

The main intensive thing I will be using this computer for is
1: iFlicks/Handbrake BluRay conversion to iTunes.

My late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro takes around 45 - 1 hr , to do a BluRay. I hope this new computer will bring that down to 20 -25 mins. Can anyone confirm?

An increase in speed may happen with a new rig. It also depends on what Blu-ray burner and ripping program you are using. Handbrake is very slow to begin with and could still be your bottleneck even with a new rig.

I have a new 27" iMac and Blu-ray burner albeit I haven't gotten around to ripping any of my blu-rays, yet.

Is your MBP the dual core or quad?

Edited to add: I am ripping "Ken Burns: The Civil War" Disc 1 (34GB total) right now with MakeMKV. There is no fan noise during conversion. :) It took an hour to rip Disc 1, which included the extras.

This is my current Blu-ray burner.

My current Retina MacBook specs:
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5

Its from 2015, but id say its a pretty good deal, 256GB SSD, i7, 4K.

1. When you say that it took an hour to rip the disc, do you mean converting in Handbrake, or saving in MakeMKV?

2. The process of converting a MKV to mp4 is a CPU related not GPU related task, right? As the 2017 iMac 4K, blows the 2015 iMac 4K (link above) out of the water in that area, but the CPU isn't that big of a change, right?
