Hello , My mac mini won't let a new disc be inserted into the optical drive. It's like the sensor or feed motors aren't working. We know there is no disc in there. Someone said i could try resetting the BIOS for the optical drive - but i don't know how to do that. I've tried rebooting (which we think used to help but doesn't now) and cleaning out dust with a vacuum.. Any help would be much appreciated

It sounds like it is broken. If a reboot didn't help, that is my guess. Is it under AppleCare? Are you near an apple store so you can take it in for a genius to check out?

A cheap external is going to be less expensive than any repair. Personally, I'd think about how much my time is worth, and whether it's worth any more time trying to troubleshoot it.

thanks

thanks guys,

yeah i figured that getting a new one would be cheaper than repair, never really use the optic drive anyway it was just a mammoth CD ripping session. You don't think 'resetting the drive BIOS' is worth a go then ? (not that i know how to do that !)

cheers
