Once you create your new me.com address can you then make it your main email and log in for iTunes and iCloud?

I actually figured it out.

You don't need it to be !

Just log in using your me.com in iTunes and it'll log you in as normal. . .log in with it anywhere and it'll work as your sign in ID :)

You can forget all your other details so long as you remember that :)

I know that you can login with your @me as well as your former Apple ID (in my case Hotmail). My question is, how can I change this Apple ID to my @me or change my main email (Hotmail as I am ditching that account).

Right now you can't, but Apple has said they are working on making that possible.

Not that I don't believe you. I'm actually hoping for that, but do you have a source?
It's half true. Apple has said they're aware of the desire for such an ability, but they've never said they're working on it.

There was a MacRumors story not too long ago (within the past month) about it.

The hope is that they will allow one to transfer purchase history to another account with the account holders' permissions. So for those of us who own an old account with purchases on it, and a newer account that we like the name of better, or simply use instead of the old one, we'll be able to "merge" them for lack of a better term.

Here's hoping.

Yes you can, that's always been possible since mac.com. But, you cannot take your iTunes or App Store purchases with you.
