Can You Prevent MobileMe From Deleting Messages in Trash

Does anyone know...Can you prevent MobileMe from deleting messages in the trash Folder?

They are automatically deleted after 30 days. I would like them to stay in the trash folder until I manually delete them (a little like Gmail).

I'm using Apple Mail.ap on my laptop and iPhone.

If you are using the mail app and an iphone then you can, using me.com you have no option

in mail, go to preferences then accounts and select your mobileme account, in the mailbox behaviours option, unslect the tick box to store trash on the server and also set the option to never delete

on iphone settings, mail,contacts,calendar,select me account, tap account info, advanced and change the deleted messages to never

They are probably getting a lot questions from users like me. What makes the situation more confusing/frustrating is the settings in Mail.ap:

Under preferences>accounts>mobileme>mailbox behaviors>trash...you can set "Permanently erase deleted messages when:" to NEVER

But MobileMe overrides that setting and deletes messages after 30 days. I'm sure their are a lot of MobileMe users asking,

Hey, who the &*$#! emptied the trash?

I think this is one of the confusing things with using IMAP email over multiple devices, each device can have different settings and have an impact on what happens to your mail, shame that the settings cannot be synced so you make a change on one device (eg delete trash after 30 days), and this setting is reflected on all other devices using this mail server (unless is does and i havnt seen it)

I havnt been using IMAP mail for long (when I got iPhone I changed all mail accounts to imap instead of pop), I just seem to find IMAP a bit messy at times when there are so many variations for what could go wrong

Good points, paulsalter. That is how I feel about my implementation of GMail with Mail.ap. However, given that Apple controls the entire experience (MobileMe, Mail.ap, iPhone...), I would expect better.
