Can You Save Music on Apple TV & Will You Be Able to Play from iCloud once its available?

I have an Airport Express and I hate having to leave my computer on to access the music files. It seems like a waste or energy and computer life.
Can I play through my iPad if I need to?

Thanks in advance!:apple:

It's not possible to store music on the Apple TV 2, but I understand that you could with the original model (it had an internal hard disc). As for the iCloud thing, I've no idea, but nothing of the sort had been announced or suggested, and I would anyway suspect not as from what I can gather it's more of a synching service than a streaming one.

If your music's on your iPad, then you could just use it send music to your AirPort Express via AirPlay.

I just hate having a computer running. I guess its the same if I run a mac mini instead of apple tv (but I can control/wake up the mac mini with my ipad).

I feel the same way OP. Just seems like a waste having the computer running. Good point about bringing up iCloud EmpyreanUK. I do suspect that there may be some sort of iCloud integration with ATV, since it does run iOS. Perhaps they will allow streaming.

I do have my Macbook Pro (used for music recording) but running that to be a jukebox makes me cringe.

Maybe a cheapo PC is the way to go. I'm sure something exsists that would allow me to wake it up with iPad.

Wish there was a better solution!

You know that you can set you ATV to wake the computer only when/if it needs files? I stream from my iMac Mini and have even with the old ATV. I set it to 'wake on wireless' and it remains asleep until my ATV2 requests files.

The energy used by a sleeping Mac is miniscule. I have had my setup this way for almost 4 years.

That is a great bit of information. Thank you!

I sincerely appreciate this pointer!
