I know back in the day I could do this, but then they shut off that capability, has no one since found a work around?

Huh? I have all my iTunes movies stored on my external drive since years. Or is this a thing with more recent mac OS / iTunes/ Music releases?

Kind of a bummer. I am away on a memorial day fishing trip right now. As a matter of bad timing my new iPad showed up at my local Apple store yesterday. Before leaving for the trip I set my device up as best I could, transferring most of the media that I wanted on my device. I didn’t have time to transfer it all however, because I needed to hit the road. Then it occurred to me that I had a number movies on an external thunderbolt drive— so I threw it in my bag with the intention of taking care of business later during some downtime.

Nope. It seems the only way to get a movie into your iPad movie library is to sync it from the TV app on the Mac That kind of sucks.
