This is a what if. . .suppose I buy an IPhone and sign up for the two year plan and something happens (move, job loss, etc.) and say six months from now I need to switch to another phone or cancel. Can I simply cancel, pay my termination fee ($175) and then sell the IPhone on ebay/craigslist? Specifically, can the new buyer just sign it up in their name?

If you are moving to an area without AT&T coverage many times they will let you break the contract with no termination fee.

After all that you would be able to do what you want with the iPhone. Sell it, use it as a door stop, shave with it, etc, etc.
