iPhone Can You Use Jailbreaking To Update A Device To An iOS That Is Not Made For It

I have an iPhone 4 and use it for media reasons in my band and wanted to know if I can update it to iOS 8 for compatibility reasons.
Will I be able to do this through jailbreaking?
