can you use the camera kit to load movies?

Any idea whether or not it would be possible to use the camera kit to connect to an external hard drive or something and load movies to the ipad?
It says on apple's site that you can use it to transfer movies but I am worried that they are going to do something dumb like clump the video into the photo app like they do with the iphone.
If they don't do that and apple is nice I could see myself taking the 16 gig ipad, one of those small externals loaded with movies, and the connector kit on a plane and never subjecting myself to ****** flight movies.

Honestly, I would seriously doubt that. However, a 3rd party app might if Apple allows it in store. Maybe a jailbreak app.

Like the iPhone, only a few codecs will be supported. I'll assume since they said media on an SD card could be played on the iPad that the media doesn't have to come off a camera so long as it's in a format the iPad can read/play. The reality of all that can be done with the camera kit is yet to be determined. I'm going to assume it will be exploitable by developers and all sorts of amazing capabilities/uses will show up.

Even if there is a way to do this, don't you think powering an external hard drive and processing video at the same time is going to run the battery down pretty quickly?

Powering the hard drive might be a drain, good point but off an sd card wouldnt be as draining. I just hate apple's memory pricing on everything, it insults my intelligence when the double memory for 100 bucks every time so every chance i get to screw the system I will.

I was thinking about this myself. And while you probably could load properly formatted movies off your SD card I only see one issue. I've read that while you can delete movies off your iPhone/iTouch, the space isn't recovered until it's linked with iTunes. If this is true, and the iPad works the same way, it would limit the functionality of importing movies from SD cards without having access to your desktop. Hopefully it won't work like that.
Along the same lines, while you can import photos from a real camera on a trip, you can't delete photos without iTunes, so you can't email photos and then recover space by deleting them. Maybe iPad with work differently.

I just deleted the hangover from my iphone and it went from 6.4 gigs available to 7.9. It would seem like a useless feature if you could delete straight from the device but weren't able to actually use the space until you hooked it to a computer.
