So basically the title.. since I have the one for the 4th gen and don‘t feel like buying a new one for my 5th gen ipad pro that I‘m getting this weekend.

I have both keyboards and the 4th gen one sticks to the older pro firmly while the magnets are weaker on the 5th gen, but it works fine. The 5th gen one stick to the M1 just like the older keyboards sticks to the older iPads, that is very firmly. Thats the main difference in my opinion. They are both perfectly flush, unless maybe you put some glass screen protector

Thanks! I guess I don‘t really need the new one then.
