With the prices of these new devices, I've been doing research on android.

I use Apple Pay a lot (99% of my purchases are Apple pay since it's rare to find a store that doesn't accept tap) and my bank does not support Google Pay.

One thing that I can't find a solid answer on is how do mobile payments work? If my bank doesn't support Google Pay am I SOL?

You have a couple of options in the android world. If your bank has its own wallet app, which most do, you can use it to do mobile payments. If you get a Samsung, and your bank supports Samsung Pay, then that's the way to go. Samsung Pay truly works anywhere. Tap and no tap. Nothing more bone crushing dominant than making a non tap (mst) payment with my Gear S3 Frontier. Galaxy Watch can no longer do this, but can still do NFC payments.
