yes, but is it part of the 2-year contract that we signed by officially activating it through iTunes? are we breaking this contract by removing the data plan that was originally selected or is it just the voice plan that satisfies the 2-year contract? I have a feeling it is the data plan since I am still "eligible for phone upgrade" if I sign a new 2-year voice plan so that seems to be independent of the iPhone 2-year agreement.
They might be doing this in preparation for a "3G limited data" plan, or several other flavors of plans more tailored to the faster 3G network. If you remove your old one, you may not have the option to add one for $20 in the future, they do this sort of thing all the time with their phone service. My family is on an old plan for $39.99 with 450 minutes, but you can't get this plan anymore. If we were to upgrade to a 550 plan or something else temporarily, we'd lose the $39.99 plan forever with no option to get it back on a family plan.
(my account doesn't have the option to remove right now btw, just checked because like bacaramac, i'm using a temporary phone between iPhone v1 and iPhone v2 in the meantime)
