I'm having second thoughts of my white macbook (refurb -- listed as $1,099) purchase,
total price $1,208.
I'm thinking of canceling the order to place another order for a black (refurb) macbook for $1,299, estimated total price would be alittle over $1,400.

Should i spend the extra $200 on black?
I've read alot of peoples comments on both white and black but im still torn between the two, imo black looks alot nicer in the pictures i've seen -- but i havn't seen a black one in person.

Does the black really show skin oil that easly?
I dunno which i want now, help me decide, someone.

I tried cancelling mines, because I wasn't sure if the refurbished Macbook would be such a great idea. After reading a lot of problem with random shutdown. It wouldn't let me cancel my order, I order it last wednesday.

Wow, what a novel idea for a thread. And here I thought that a new thread topic couldn't be invented.

Sheesh.

I'm not too worried about it having problems.
I ordered mine last thursday.
Why didn't it let you cancel the order?

The display BlackBooks in-store I had a look at today - looked very very shiny - shiny like a well worn keyboard.

The white MB's however didn't - but various parts of the fascia looked grubby - like different shades of white.

So...my input here is perhaps no real help in deciding... my thinking is though - is that the white would wear better - as long as you wipe it clean every now and then.

Edit: just to further add - I think the shiny affect with the BlackMB is also happening with the WhiteMB - the difference being how the light refracts and reflects off the surfaces

That's right baby! 64 bits of pure performance. Why buy yesterday's technology when you need to use it tomorrow?

Cancel an order and pay $200 more just to change the color? I wouldn't.

Also, although I certainly see the wisdom of waiting for specific processor upgrades when they make sense (like the duo core for the mini or the Intel for the Powerbook) it doesn't pay to wait forever for something when you need a computer today. I don't know what you do on a laptop, but my G4 Powerbook does everything I need a laptop for, but that's because I only write and browse with a laptop.

ya i want the 64bit core but i dont think i can wait till they release a notebook with one.
plus surfing the web, checking email, etc dosn't really need 64 power.

the only problem is that it's been said to be right around the corner for months now... and there's also reports saying it wont be there for another half yr...

if you do surf net, email, etc, you really don't need 64bit.. and by the itme 64bit is well developed, both yonah and merom are last decade's technology

This is true. Buy the Macbook now and enjoy it. If you were buying a Macbook Pro I'd wait to purchase as there may be some attractive features added aside from the new processor.

One of my friends got a blackbook last week and it's already totally greased up, it's filthy fugly.

So you have to decide between easily greased or easily scratched :)

According to the biggest Mac reseller here in Winnipeg, when Apple stopped shipping it's old generation iPods a few weeks ago (to be replaced with the new aluminum Nanos, and gapless playback models) it also stopped shipping all MacBooks. There is also a 5-week backorder to get them off of Apple's online store, as they are emptying out their supply of the old laptops. This ONLY happens when a new product release is right around the corner, and since all MacBooks have been sold out for a couple weeks already, Apple must be releasing the new products within the next 1 - 2 weeks. I know how hard it is...I am a student, and just sold my iBook to my girlfriend with the intention of buying a new MacBook, only to find that I can't get one anywhere in Winnipeg, and that Apple's online store will only ship in 5 weeks! The reps at the mac store assured me that if I wait one, maybe 2 weeks, there will be a shipment of new, upgraded MacBooks that I can get my hands on way faster than ordering one of the current models off of the website. It's hard to wait, I know...as I have no computer, and spend all the time I can steal from someone else's checking Apple Rumor sites to see if I can get my new computer yet. Sit tight...I'm telling you, sit tight!

There is stock online

There is MacBook stock online at the U.S. and Canada Apple stores.

I also called a store in Toronto Apple Store that DOES have stock of the white and black MacBooks.

So while I wish they were phasing out the old MacBook, I'm not sure the guy in the store in Winnipeg knows what he's talking about.
