After seeing all of the hubbub about the screens and also having to deal with the insane wait times in the process (I wouldn't have a desperately-needed computer until the 28th, which is too damn far away), I decided to re-order an i5 through Amazon. Saved me a couple hundred bucks, but am I doing myself a disservice? What if my screen flickers or looks like my friend's cat pissed all over it? Does Amazon react as kindly to replacements as Apple seems to be doing, or have I pretty much screwed myself by needing a computer sooner?

Camzor, Yes, I think you made a decent decision. Direct from Apple isn't bad, but you have to wait so long to even see if it is going to have any issues.

I had the i7 from Apple on Thursday, immediately had to return it, which took in total 1+ hour on the phone bouncing between agents.

I ordered from Amazon and have the i5 now. The yellow is *much* better. It is almost unnoticeable, so I may keep this one.

However, if you do have trouble, Amazon is very good.

They will re-ship you another (if in stock) via quick service and charge you $0.00 as long as they get the other one back within a couple weeks. Sometimes on the large item they might make you pay the return ship by taking it to a courier, but if it is a defective they'll refund you extra when they get it back to make up for more or all of it. Or sometimes they can send out UPS to get it, but they do that less now.

Of course, if you just want a refund, they'll do that too. However, 30 days is a fairly strict limit, so you should decide early on, if it is right or not.

Hope you get a good one! It is a great computer.

That's fantastic! That's not the first time I've heard that about Amazon's customer service, so it looks like I made a good decision on this one. Hopefully nothing in the future will rely on hyperthreading too much. I'd love to have the i7, but the only intensive thing I really do on my computer (other than photography-related work) is World of Warcraft, and I don't need an i7 for that.

Awesome, then. :) I'm happy with my decision. Hopefully I don't get the nightmarish yellow tint or anything like that.

Great. Good luck to you. It's sad that so many are yellow, but I'm hoping you get a good one.

Hope they deliver it soon to you.

I had an i5 on order at Apple but I got tired of waiting and started checking my usual sites and I saw that bhphotovideo.com had i7's in stock, so I ordered one and canceled my Apple Store order. Will be shipped out tomorrow. It'll get here a day before Apple would have even shipped my i5. Good decision if I do say so myself. :)

Ooh, B&H Photo has the i7s in stock? Crap, wish I'd even thought of that! I love shopping there and love that store immensely. Perhaps if this i5 is a failure, I'll order the i7 from there instead.

Further, since I'm almost hoping the i5 is a failure, maybe I'll be even luckier and it won't be a failure. ;)

But yeah, my order from Apple wasn't even supposed to get here until the 28th, whereas my Amazon order is set to get here on Wednesday. Not a bad decision at all at that rate.
