Just canceled my online order for the 11in. I went to the Apple store to look and just fell in love with the 12.9in
The bigger screen is just beautiful, and the 11 next to it just didn’t look as good. I currently have a 10.5 and love it. But this time, the new 12.9 just catches my eye.

So no more 11, keyboard and pencil.

Tomorrow I’m waking early, going down to my Apple store and grabbing the 12.9 and the pencil, no keyboard though as that can wait.

I have the old 12.9 and wanted to downsize to the 11 for something I could use as a portable planner/notebook for writing. I think I can adjust to this size because I own a MacBook Pro for serious work. But I checked out the iPads in the store yesterday and the 12.9 in the new form factor is a really beautiful object. If you want to replace any part of your laptop work flow with an iPad, it would be hard not to pick up the larger size.

For people that spend hours on the iPad and do serious work, the 12.9” is the go to iPad. Having said that, I opted for the 11” because I use it mostly for media consumption and is a easier to hold for a long time. I have a 15” MBP for productivity and complex tasks.

I gotta concur with everyone here. There is a certain something going on with new 12.9 ipad. The way it feels in your hands, the screen (ah, that gorgeous screen) is just breathtaking. And those eight cores make for snappy work. The pencil is ideally perfect for this form factor. It is held on tightly to the the side and hasn’t come off after being jostled around in my backpack. It’s a real pleasure to use for sure. Apple has a winner here.

I’m finding the 12.9 naked is a completely different proposition to when the folio keyboard is attached.

It’s like part beautiful, perfectly sized iPad naked, then with the keyboard It’s just seems so much heavier and thicker.

Maybe that’s due to just how thin and nice it is without anything attached rather than the keyboard being noticeably thick and heavy.

Either way - I don’t think there much chance of me preferring the 11” now I’ve tried the 12.9.

Good call. I had the 2015 12.9 before so it was an easy choice for me. My wife on the other hand has been using the 9.7 inch regular iPad and after adjusting to the physical size of the 2018/9 Pro 12.9...she isn't looking back either.

Unless you really want to hold your ipad in one hand, or have a purse or bag that it needs to fit in, I think a lot of people would enjoy the bigger one over the smaller.

The reason I'm going for the 12.9 is I want to be able to have a PDF on screen at a readable size AND take notes. PDFs are readable on the 10.5/11 if you full-screen them in portrait, but then you don't have room to do anything else simultaneously.

Size difference from new 12.9 to 10.5

Yes, this time the 12.9 isn’t the big heavy beast it was before. They really shrunk it down, made it lighter and damn is it beautiful.
I spent hours in the Apple store messing with both and could not keep away from the 12.9, it just felt so right. Even holding it in my hand at the corner didn’t bother me, and I’m not a big guy. It didn’t feel heavy or awkward at all.

Some were saying it’s to big to carry around or hold on a train or plane. But I don’t think so, fits right in my Thule case and slides right into my backpack. It’s not going to fit in my Ace bag like my 10.5 did, but that’s ok for me.
The large beautiful screen and sleek design are just irresistible, and the 11in looked like a little baby next to it trying to copy how it looks, but just couldn’t quite get there.

I couldn’t sleep at all, it’s 5am here in Japan. Gonna go to Apple at about 8 and wait out front to try and get one.

Went to the apple store and saw the difference..good God its a big difference..but for me the 12.9 inch its basically in MacBook size territory so will be sticking with the 11 inch

I tried them both in store and my reasoning hasn’t changed, the 12.9 is too big to be portable and carry around much, but is definitely better at a desk, even lying flat and not bothering with a keyboard. So I would go for 11 inch which felt a very nice size with the folio case on it too, but if I ever replaced my Mac then I would use the 12.9 instead.

Exactly and I agree..the 12.9 is GORGEOUS but its not a portable device..its beautiful but for me the 11 inch will work better..even though dang I tell ya that 12.9 is a beauty

I went in to get the 2018 MacBook Air. I started playing with the new 12.9 since I already have the 10.5. Guess what I walked out with. The 12.9 iPad is pretty awesome. Great screen. Feels light. I like it very much. Got the Smart Folio which is very nice as well. Happy so far!

I had initially ordered an 11 from Verizon but when they failed to process/ship my order in time for launch (order confirmation did say delivery on the 7th and nothing had been processed as of that morning), I reserved a 12.9 1TB LTE model for in-store pickup on launch day as soon as the app went live for it. Walked out with a nice haul that morning and I can’t wait to fire it up (waiting on a screen protector to arrive which comes on Tuesday). As it stands, I’m happy I went with the larger size after my decision was further cemented when I played with the models in the store and got to compare them side by side. Will be amazing watching my movies, shows and streaming as well as doing my art
