I'm growing sick of how incapable apple is of producing a quality product. My second mac was a MacBook, and I had to live through the random shutdowns, the excessive heat, faulty memory, and now it has trouble with hibernation (sometimes it doesn't shut down, other times it doesn't wake up). I just bought my lady a nano that came along with the Mac, and it freaking locked the first day of use!! I mean, seriously, they've had years to get this device working correctly, and it doesn't even do much!

Most companies would replace a defective product (Nintendo, King of customer service). Apple, heeeeeeeell no, they take your machine for 2 weeks, and don't do squat. I can understand a new product having defects, but stop pretending they don't exist, and don't give me a hard time because you can't produce a quality product.

So kisses to you :apple:, I just canceled my 3,000$ 2.4 MBP Order. No more nightmares for me. Time to put out the truth, after all the free publicity I've given Macs over the years. It's the least I can do.

this SR MBP 2.2 is my first mac in ten years and it doesn't have any of those problems (it is one of 4 i ordered in July - none of the 4 have the yellowing, sleeping or heat issues). i am also a serial returner of products.

forums tend to draw more complaints than praise.

Dude, please reconsider. This is going to drive Apple out of business. Before complaining in a forum, it may be best to try and sort out your issues with them.

I don't quite understand how you made the jump from a series of MacBook problems and an iPod problem to canceling the order for a computer you have not received because you know it will have problems. This seems completely illogical to me.

In your title you mention "yellow screens" but you don't mention it anywhere in the thread.

I feel (somewhat) sorry for you and the problems you've had, but the sympathy ends when you start a thread just to whine about a product you haven't even had the opportunity to hold in your hand.

So you canceled your MBP order because of yellow screens at the time where it appears Apple has the screen issue mostly worked out. Nicely timed! :)

i think the shipping delay i had in July was to fix screen issues. now its.....september! problem solved long ago. in any case - i fully condone his order cancellation; vote with your wallet or suffer the consequences.

You need to realize a couple of things:

1: MacRumors members are not the only ones buying Macs. A few threads here are not indicative of all those buying Macs. In other words, just because some people here complain doesn't mean it is a widespread and that Apple feels the need to look deeply into the issue. That doesn't mean they never will of course. In fact I think they have.

2: Some people don't notice or don't care and thus live with the "defect." Which would obviously go unreported and see #1

3: You seem to have terribly bad luck. I have owned all the products you mentioned (excluding the SR MBP but my coworker has one) and I have not had the problems you have. And if i did, you better believe I am getting a replacement, more in this in #4.

4: Some of you people are way too passive. You let a company walk all over you. Does Apple want to replace my product? Probably not, they are a business like every other business and they want to make money. Am I going to make Apple replace my product if I feel that it is necessary? You better believe it. Consumer rights are there for a reason. You don't have to live with a defective product. There are avenues to take when dealing with companies to get what you deserve. Your inability to do that speaks volumes as to why you are frustrated and ultimately get pissed on.

5: The Nano is a lot newer. They haven't had "years" and besides if you reset the software and its works fine from then on, who cares.

I will end my points here. I am in no way defending Apple, I have been fortunate enough to not have the issues that others do, however, it is important to learn the skills a consumer needs to not get screwed. Instead of trying to stick it to Apple by not buying a MBP (which will not hurt them) you should instead be attempting to push for the good of everyone else.

Not to mention, you didn't even get the thing to see if it is fine. My buddy has a MBP and it doesn't have the yellow.

I'm glad you're all happy with your new laptops, truly. I'm not a hater on anyone happy with their purchase, I just personally can't take the lack of respect they show towards their customers anymore.

They are the worst company I've ever dealt with. Had pleasant experiences with Sony, Nintendo, Dell, and...drum roll...even Apple back in the day! (miss my old Performa). Their cost savings have cost them their quality.

I want them to ship a good product, I really do. The thought of me having to go out and buy a viao or lenovo makes me shudder, but I just can't afford the time it takes to deal with a defective product anymore.

I feel the same way when my equipment has problems and whenever I get anything from Apple it does have a problem:iMac G3, G4 & G5. iBook G3 & G4 x3 and PM G4 = 8 Macs with multiple faults but where can you go? Dell, HP? Where? All the money you've spent on S/ware all your files ... You're buggered mate. You'll be back and take the sh*t with the rest of us.:)

I have been using apple products for around 5 years...
Looking back...
iMac G4, ipod 3rd generation (the ipod i liked the most, with glowing buttons), iMac G5, ipod mini, iBook G4, Macbook Pro CD, ipod nano, ipod 5.5G, SR Macbook Pro C2D, iMac Aluminium

The only problem that I had was in the ipod 3rd genereation where it just died out after 7 months of use, and i got a replacement for it.

I hope you realize that your protest of cancelling an order over the probability of problems you imagine you are going to have in the future, will not make the slightest difference to Apple?

There is a serious problem of proportion of that response... it ignores the actual chances of getting something bad.

Based on the same reasoning, you could also quit flying because "everyone's" planes are being hijacked by terrorists, or quit eating spinach because "all" spinach is tainted with salmonella or botulism or e. coli.

My family's score to date:
1 iBook G3, 3 G4 Minis, 4 iPod Nanos, 1 iMac G5, 2 Shuffles, 1 iPod 4G, 1 MacBook Refurb. All perfect, no service issues with any of them.

When I have had clients with service problems, they were fixed quickly and courteously by our local Authorized Apple resellers.

Buy a PC and then tell us how you like it!

Dude! Buy a PC, get a virus, get spyware, get your machine hosed and bank account cleaned and have fun with a PC! Then come back and let us know how you like those things! Otherwise, don't come on here to complain about poor service. Apple may have a bad run, but do your homework and never buy until the kinks are worked out.

Good One. So true.

lol complete apple fan boy. i have never had to wait for "kinks" to be ironed out when buying a new mobel thinkpad for example, why the hell should apple be any different? its upto the company selling the product to test it, not the users.

fair play to the orginal poster, if you get poor service, vote with your wallet, its the only language companys understand.

Sounds like a bad run of luck, definitely. I've been reasonably pleased with Apple's customer service, to the extent that I've had to use it, but if your experience has been different then I can't blame you for parting ways with them.

I used to buy a lot of Sony products, but between consistent and egregious hardware failure and being treated with naked contempt by their customer service people, they won't be getting another chance with me. And yet, some claim to have no problems with either their products or their service. Go figure.

Sorry to hear that your experience was bad, though. I've owned six Macs in ten years, and only one has ever caused me any appreciable problems.

so your canceling your order to get what...? a pc? you'll have even more problems. (apple is updating they're stuff all of the time. don't worry.)

Goodluck with whatever computer and audio device you decide to go with.

Some have gone with Apple because they got tired of the faults of the other side. In your case it is the other way around. Hope you find what you are looking for as many of us have found the less flaws in Apple.

Well, after dealing with hundreds of PCs in a school district, I can tell you working on a mac is a pleasure and not that I am a fanboy, but realize that you will have to pick a platform that works for you. If the original poster got a lemon, sorry to hear that. But to totally go off the cliff like a leming, just because your order is messed up is totally off the wall.

You might as not purchase a car, microwave, or fridge in the future just because something might go wrong. Plus, did the original poster ever contact Apple customer service or get the extended warranty????

:apple:

I have a 2.4 Ghz, 160 gb, Matte Screen SR. It works great. Screen is great. Fast as can be. No complaints so far.....

My first apple computer was my 17" Powerbook G4 1.33. its old as dirt now, as is still one of my most used computers, of which i own many, including a brand new macbook purchased just a few months ago. i also have a HP DV6000T with a 2ghz C2D, and otherwise loaded. a hardcore gaming desktop, and a couple Dell laptops, an inspiron 5100 and a 710m.

Now. I have to say, that apple still has my vote for best build quality. there are always people out there that will get a lemon, but thats with anything.
I havent had any problems at all with any of my computers, even my self built gaming rig. i've own numerous ipods, from the very first, to the second and third gen, to the mini, to the video, and now nano. i havent had any problems what so ever.
I also own plenty of apple accessories, like the BT mouse and keyboard. no problems. see where im going with this?

in the end, you have to do whats best for you. and if that doesnt include apple in your life, so be it.

I used PCs for I can't remember how many years before getting my first Mac a few months ago. I never had any spyware. I only ever had 1 virus that was basically harmless and more likely a false positive than a virus.

I did have a bad experience with HP's customer support when the motherboard died on my dv5000 notebook.

But I've also had bad experiences with Apple. Like the Safari 3 beta that killed a bunch of my software. And now with my MacBook being sent in for repair for a bad SuperDrive.. getting beat up and not repaired properly. Twice.

i went to drop off my computer for repair.. i showed them the list of problems (alot appear to be common) they gathered around an unconvincingly scrachted their heads and told me how these are all very strange and they have never heard of anything happening lol... so i ask them how long until i get my computer back.. they tell me there is a 2 week waiting list and probably another 1 - 2 weeks after that for repairs. must be alot of macs in for repair....

Not going to directly respond to any comments, as I'm not here to antagonize. I'm just surprised by the shortness of memory most people have. There have been so many issues since apple switched to the intel line.

Purely off the top of my head, who doesn't remember the random restart bug. You can't possible say that this didn't affect a fair share of MacBook owners. The worst part is Apple didn't say anything, it was up to us to bring in our laptops over and over, until someone outside of the company finally discovered the fault, and posted his fix. Don't get me started on the heat problems, little inferno balls! Hell, apple still thinks putting 10 tons of paste on an heat sink is spot.

This is systematic of how they do things, they never admit to fault. You'd be hard pressed to get any organization to admit otherwise, but most eventually do under insurmountable evidence. Good luck with Apple.

You think Apple would ever just break down and give me a new MacBook considering I've had to send the thing in 4 times, heck no. I'll live with the hibernate problems cause I can't afford to give up my lap for another 2-3 weeks just have it come back and have the same problems.

BTW, on my 3rd shuffle!
