Hey guys, i just downloaded the trial version of candybar 2.5.1 and i've used it until it expired. I downloaded it again but it displays a message saying that my trial has expired and i have to purchase it. I didn't back up some of the original icons and i'm afraid I can't get them back. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

i did yes, but since i didn' do the backup of the original icons, they can't change back. My problem is, i'd like to use Candy bar more often and it won't let me. i know people who use it loads of times and don't have this kind of issues.

Sorry if I was stating the obvious – if I had a Pound for everytime I've been scratching my head over a software/hardware problem only for the answer to be staring me in the face I'd be much better off than I am now. ;)

The first time you use it, Candy Bar should automatically back up your default icons – on my system (running Tiger) they're stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Candy Bar. Clicking on the 'Restore Icons' button should, well, restore the icons, even after your trial licence has expired. However, I think that if you've already customised your system icons before Candy Bar has run for the first time it'll copy the changed icons – not the original Apple system icons. Are you by any chance running any other GUI software – a theming app such as Shapeshifter for example?

No, i'm not using Shapeshifter or anything like it. Thing is, after it expired, even if i download it again, it says the trial has expired. That's my problem.

Your Mac will log when the software first ran and this will prevent the limited-time trial rerunning – because otherwise people would never buy the software, they'd just redownload it! The software is behaving exactly as it should – except that it should allow you to revert back to your original icons even though the trial period has expired.

As for how to get your original system icons back... looking at the Candy Bar FAQ Page doesn't spring up any immediate answers – short of saying that if you have problems restoring your default icons you should drop them an email and they'll see what they can do to help you out. However, I've looked around and apparently a piece of software called Aquafix can restore your default icons – it's worked for people who have experienced similar Candy Bar problems at least. You should be able to find it through Versiontracker – it might be worth giving it a go.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Thanks for all your help! I downloaded Aquafix but it doesn't seem to help, when i open it, it displays: error NSReceiverEvaluationScriptError: 4 (1). Is this normal?

I've never used Aquafix myself so I can't say, I'm afraid. As the Candy Bar FAQ suggests, it might be worthwhile dropping The Iconfactory or Panic a line and telling them you can't revert back to your defaults after the trial has expired. From what I hear they're pretty amiable folk so it's certainly worth a go!

Beyond that, I've got to say I'm a little stumped!
