OK, I'm a real newb here and I have been happy with my BB Curve. But, I got the bug to try out the iPhone before my T-Mo contract expires.
So, I buy an unlocked and jailbroke 2G phone on Ebay (it is spotless). It came with an AT&T SIM. I figured all I would have to do is replace the SIM with my T-Mo SIM.

I pop out the ATT SIM and pop in my T-MO SIM. All I get is the screen which shows "slide for emergency call" and the graphic showing the iPhone connected to iTunes. When I connect it to iTunes via my Macbook, I get the message:

"This phone has a SIM which does not appear to be an AT&T SIM (duh). Please visit your nearest AT&T store", or something of the sort.

I do not know what was used nor how the phone was unlocked, etc. by previous owner. But, unless I can get my T-MO card to work, I'm up a creek (and out some $$).

The iPhone is running 2.1 firmware and has the APP Store, Cydia and Installer apps icons on the screen.

Can someone help me here??

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Jeff

What? So, you can see the home screen? If the activation is botched, that won't be possible. And of course it isn't recognizing the sim. If you can see the homescreen, the unlocking was botched, or never done and it was a lie when sold to you

Thanks for the response.

So, you are saying that if I see the full screen of icons (SMS,Calendar,Photos,Camera, You Tube, Cydia, Installer, etc.) that it is not unlocked or is screwed up?

If that is true (which I have no reason to think otherwise), what are my options to unlock, etc. now that I own it?

Which model of phone is it and what computer do you have?

Hi,

This "research" you did on the internet, does it happen to be putting your phone in DFU mode? or any type of restoration process as in hold down power button, release etc etc.

It sounds like you restored the phone, meaning. you have lost your unlocking/jailbroken capabilities. It's not that hard to unlock/jailbrake it once again.

Yeah thats what they said do, I just need to know which one to use because the person who sold me the phone did not tell me which one to use? So, Ive tried pwangetool, ziphone, but I don't think I am doing the right steps or have the right version for this phone? I need to know the version I should use and so I can unlock again...I guess?

@frjeff and some of other posters --->

My vote: sell the iPhone(s) as you didn't do enough research before purchasing them.

Other option: The phone can be re-jailbroken and unlocked.

Use Google to study 2G jailbreak and unlock (for frjeff) others may have different models.

All the tools you need are all over the internet.

Try iclarified.com. They have tons of information including how to jb / unlock depending upon which OS you're on / firmware etc. It does sound like you either updated or restored your phone so that it is no longer jailbroken. The DevTeam at iclarified is a great resource.
