Since iOS 15 I have been unable to type in both windows when using split view. This was always possible before. The cursor shows, but the text goes into the first window you typed in . I try to activate the window by selecting the three dots the top of the page, but that does not work. My sister, has the same issue on her iPad Pro, but I have not seen it discussed anywhere so I ma wondering if we have a setting that is off. Thanks

all or a specific app efected? onscreen keyboard works?
This is consistent across the on screen keyboard and the Apple keyboard. It happens when I have two windows open in split view (usually SCRABBLE and Google search, but I have tried it with pages also) and I can type in one, but if I try to type in the other the cursor appears, but he type goes into the original window I typed in. I cannot seem to switch activating the two windows. I have reset, wiped the iPad and restored etc. it is odd that my sister and I have the same issue, but I have not seen it talked about anywhere else. Makes me think we have a setting off somewhere.

It’s a bug. I just checked with 2 instances of Pages open side by side. It only works if you leave text entry (by selecting for example the inspector and choosing some font) and then switch to the second document.

If you have no peripherals connected and the onscreen keyboard comes up in the first document you can type, but if the onscreen keyboard stays open it will continue adding all text entry to the first document. Only if you exit the onscreen keyboard and reopen it in the second instance, text will be added to that document.

I will later check when home with some pheripherals and report back. Time to give Apple feedback on that one. 🧐

EDIT: no problem when switching between Safari (e.g. entering text here in the comment field) and Pages in splitview. Onscreen keyboard stays open but text is correctly entered in the active app.

Thanks for the feedback. My usual is the SCRABBLE board and a word descrambler app. It works in one window, but not the other.

I just tried split-screen with notes and Google.com and it works as expected. I haven’t noticed that issue since updating mY 9.7 iPP to 15 right away. Possibly the issue is with your scrabble app.

I wondered that as well, but I tried Pages and Google together and encountered the same issue. Also tried Pages and Amazon together and once I typed inPages I could not enter any information into Amazon. Thanks for checking and responding. I appreciate it

Weird. Does it happen only in 50/50 split? What about 25%/75% and slide over? What about portrait vs landscape?

I think this may be deliberate, to prevent losing focus on the first app if scrolling the second app.
Just collapse the onscreen keyboard to switch focus.
For a physical keyboard hit CMD-tick i.e. CMD-` to switch focus between windows of the same app, or CMD-TAB to switch focus between different apps.
The focus is indicated by the window with the 3 dots shaded, when using a physical keyboard.

However, I agree it is not 100% consistent. Sometimes the focus will switch between apps by just tapping.

I will work with this in different configurations. I prefer to use the Apple keyboard rather than the on screen one.

It worked seamlessly with the Apple Keyboard prior to iOS 15. As far as landscape vs. portrait or what % of the screen the window takes. I'm not sure. I have only tried it with both windows at 50%. My feeling is that you should be able to tap the three dots at the top of the page and select the window.

I see where iOS 15.02 is released today,. Hoping that helps

the update appeared t work , but only briefly. I puttee two apps I usually use side by side and tapping the three dots activated the window. I went back and tried it again a few hours later and it did not work. Hoping for 5.1 to fix things.
