Cannot delete declined invite from calendar app

Is there a way to delete a declined invite from the calendar app? I can hide it by going to calendar, click calendars at the bottom and turn off show declined events. Someone sent me a reoccurring spam invite that I declined and I want it permanently deleted. I have an iPhone 7 and running iOS 10.1.1. Thanks!

Is your calendar synced with an online/cloud service and, if so, have you checked that website to see if you can deal with it there?

I logged into my iCloud account on my MacBook and didn't see an option to delete it.

Edit: I called Apple support. The first level advisor was useless, so they transferred me to a senior advisor. Dummy me. It was as easy as deleting it from my online iCloud account. The trick was to point over the event, hit the delete key and delete all reoccurring events.
