Whatever means I adopt to delete messages in Mail inbox, they reappear there when I next launch the application. Indeed, I do not need to relaunch the application -- the deleted messages simply reappear. How can I stop this ?

what are the IMAP settings on the mailserver - e.g. for GMail is Auto-Expunge set to “ON”? As well as wether messages marked deleted are remved immediately or archive…

I have not got Auto-Expunge in Monterey. I have, though, set Mail to Erase Deleted Messages, both in On This Mac and in All Accounts. It has made no difference whatever. I have also set Mailbox Behaviour to Bin Mailbox, All Bins, Erase Deleted Messages After 1 Day. But, even if that does what it says, I am still stuck with an Inbox that seems simply to ignore Delete, so that in the course of a day, I am confronted again and again with Messages in my Inbox, that by the end of the day I. have deleted time and time again.
