Hi all happy new year
I have a problem removing an old gmail address on the mail app in El Capitain so not sure if this the correct place to put it but ( admin please feel free to move).
It just keeps saying unable to remove I even tried to remove it through settings but no go.
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance Dell

Try going to System Preferences then look in the Internet Accounts pane and see if you can remove it there.

Thanks for the prompt reply but I have already done that I is not showing in there anymore but when I open mail app it is still there I thought that when you delete in system preferences it would remove everything but no although the file is empty

Under Window in the Menu bar in Mail, open Previous Recipients. Do you see the email listed? If yes, select and remove from list.

Next place would be to remove com.apple.mail folder in Containers.

With Mail quit, go to the User's Library > Containers folder. Drag com.apple.mail folder to the Trash.
Log out/in
Empty the Trash
Open Mail and test.
