When I download the installer file via Mac Software Update in Catalina, it seems to download the full Monterey file but when I check the file size of the app in /Applications/ is it 19.6MB when it should be 11.68GB. I have tried deleting it and trying again but always the same problem. Any ideas please? Thanks.

Check this out, I suspect the same applies to beta 8 installer.

Just after posting here, I thought I'd try deleting the contents of the /Library/Updates folder, namely the two files: Index.plist and ProductMetaData.plist and rebooting, and sure enough it did seem to fix the problem, in that I can now download the entire install file, with the unfortunate side effect that it now only downloads Big Sur (I am on Catalina) and not Monterey Beta. I tried reinstalling the macOSPublicBetaAccessUtility.pkg but didn't seem to help.

Nope. It was fixed in beta 8. I was able to download the full installer for beta 8 and make a bootable usb the normal way.

The difficulty was only for beta 7. There were ways to fix beta 7, but it should not be necessary for beta 8.

I think what PliSsK was trying to download was actually beta 7 about an hour before the full installer for beta 8 was released Which would explain the small app.

I would say try again and you should get the full beta 8 instead - this time with no problems.

Not much point in trying to get beta 7 any more. It was more trouble than it was worth.

Perhaps you could try downloading via MDS instead.
