Since yesterday I cannot receive Google email on iOS (both my iPhone and iPad). It says "no password provided." I have no problem receiving email on my Mac. Nothing changed in the setting on my iOS devices, and I didn't update iOS. I use imap for my gmail account.

Google has been upping security methods of late. Might be getting caught up in that.

To help keep your account secure, from May 30, 2022, Google no longer supports the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password.

Yes, I guess that could be it. I use a manual setup of my gmail account to have different reply-to address than the actual gmail address, but perhaps I don't need that anymore, since gmail has this setting itself.

I had the same issue yesterday. I solved it by deleting my gmail account from my ipad and creatiing it again as a new account with my gmail password and it worrked!

So, I tried to delete my account and add it again. I cannot. It still says “no password provided.” So, that leads back to the first answer, that probably google‘s updated security hit me.

I can add my account as a google account. But then my “reply to” address is wrong (not my google account), although the ”reply to” address is correct in the gmail settings. How can I get Apple mail to use a different reply-to address?

It looks like Gmail can do this in Web view, I’m guessing you’ve tried setting it there and it’s not carrying over to iOS mail. Try the Gmail app maybe?

Yes, that's what is my conclusion: I cannot use Apple's mail app on iOS (the Mac app allows setting the reply-to address). So, I need a different mail app that either respects gmail's reply-to address or allows setting one. I'm sure the Gmail app would work, but I'm not sure I like gmail's interface.

I’ve had good luck with Spark mail in the past as well - benefit of Spark and Gmail app on iOS, is both support Push Notifications from Gmail (iOS mail does not). Ultimately I did switch back to iOS mail for myself, since I also have an @icloud.com account and accepted the 15-minute polling but sometimes, the built-in app isn’t suitable for specific purposes.

Yes, Spark supports a different reply-to address. It also seems the most popular email app, so I guess I will have to use that.

A while ago I got message from Google about security changes so I had to go to 2 verification - which worked. Yesterday I had contacts issue with no password for their contact method. I eventually had go into Google and get their special 16 digit password for contacts - that worked. Search google for the error and see what it says.
