Here is my problem.

I have two displays- a Gateway FHD2400 display-this one has a max resolution of 1920x1200. I also have an LG 27 in TV. Both have HDMI and DVI connectors. For some reason, when I hook up my 2011 MBP to the LG display via DVI i am able to display the picture at 1920x1080 but when I do it via HDMI, all I get is 1680x1050. I know both are HD resolutions, but why only when I use the DVI cable can I get the higher resoultuon. I am using a belkin miniDisplayPort adapter and the apple branded HDMI cable(no other place near me seemed to have HDMI cables cheaper than the apple one).

Is this a cable issue or something else?

Thanks

There should be a 1080p setting. that's the same as 1920x1080.

thats what i thought-when i do that, the image does not fill the screen, so i have to set the scaling to wide and that kind of distorts the screen.

Any way to clean it up?

I have tried playing with the underscan. I think the issue is with the monitor being able to truly display 1080p resolution. I tried hooking up my cable box and it couldn't scale full screen either.

Regarding my other question. Why can't my LG TV handle the Mac at 1920x1080 natively (that is the resolution appears in the display menu in system prefs) when I am using HDMI but can when I use DVI?
