Cannot get SMS messages with Messages app on Mac

This is peculiar. On my iMac (Mojave) my Messages app receives messages from iPhones and other Macs (blue box) but not SMS messages (green box). The SMS messages (and iPhone messages) appear on my iPhone 11, so it seems to be an issue with my iMac Messages app. Any idea how to get around this? TIA.

From what I understand, SMS doesn't work through Messages on a Mac.

I can sometimes receive them via forward, but responding to SMS only works on my iPhone.

I don't know if there's an issue but you're supposed to be able to send and receive SMS with Messages on your Mac.

It ought to work with responding to an SMS too via iMessage on a Mac if you have everything set up correctly.. I've had to look through old Mac computers connected to iMessage because I had older Macs still being able to receive SMS and iMessage. Going through your AppleID on Apple's own website and eliminate those extra Mac computers still connected as a forward-recepient might help your situation?!

My sent SMS's via Messages on iOS 13 fails as often as it would have if I were to send them through my Mac via forwarding. 😔

It works fine on my MacBook Pro and Mac Mini at home, but not my iMac at work.
