Cannot hear text alerts

Hi all, I absolutely love my iPhone 12 Pro & Watch 6 but for some reason I am unable to hear text alerts. The phone is in a leather case and the volume is set at it’s highest, the text alert sound has also been set up. But for some reason I cannot hear any sounds when texts come through.

is there anyone here that can advise ?
