So I am trying to jailbreak my iPhone 3G with 2.2 through QuickPwn.

The problem is with the reboot at the end. The first time I tried to jailbreak it a several hours ago, the reboot took over 3 hours. After the 3 hours, it was still rebooting, I took it and did a hard reset, that didn't work. It just rebooted it again. I waited about 10 minutes and nothing happened. So I tried to connect it to iTunes which it wasn't being recognized by. Sometimes it would say an unknown error occurred and that's why it could detect the iPhone. The wierd thing is that iPhoto pops up with all my photos on the iPhone and says David's iPhone under devices. It doesn't show as an iPhone though, just as a digital camera.

The second time, I am still waiting right now, started about 1 hour ago. I had to do the power off, hold home button, connect to iTunes thing. That worked and is a great last resort thing. There is no emergency call option, FYI. I restored it from recovery mode and tried the jailbreak again. Once again, I am waiting for a reboot after the jailbreak process went perfect (it seems). iPhoto still pops up with my photos and iTunes still displays unknown error messages. Now, it reboots, vibrates twice like it has booted and displays a white screen for a split second, then goes back to reboot. All I am looking at is an Apple logo on my iPhone right now and I expected to have a jailbroken iPhone hours ago. I have jailbroke my old iPhone 2G before and it was really easy with QuickPwn. I figured I should do it to my 3G and thought the process would be once again, easy. I have read that having many apps on your iPhone can hang up the reboot process after a jailbreak and I know that apps make an iPhone load longer but not 3 hours long. I really want to jailbreak my iPhone and will downgrade to 2.1 if necessary. I don't really like 2.2 anyways. Thing is, I don't know how to downgrade if it is even possible. I assume the firmware is still saved on the hard drive so I think it would be possible. Right?

Thanks it advanced for any help!!

David

I tried everything I know of, hard reset, DFU mode, etc. before doing the hold home button and connect to iTunes thing. I will use Pwnage Tool. How much harder is it to use than QuickPwn and does anyone have an explanation as of why this is happening?

David

Ok, I downloaded Pwnage Tool and now I cant even finish building the ipsw!! It just says installed Installer packages in the log and the says iHaz Fail with the cat in a mug! I am trying to do this on my MBP with 10.5.6 so it could be due to that. I am downloading Pwnage Tool on my iMac which I thankfully have not upgraded to 10.5.6. I don't think it is because of the OS because of it's not making it to the DFU mode stage. Is there a problem with the way I am jailbreaking? I am on a iPhone 3G with 2.2 using Pwnage Tool 2.2. Please help me and many thanks in advance!

Thanks,
David

Did you increase the root partition when using Pwnage Tool in Expert mode?

Umm, how do I do that and what does that mean. I don't think so. I also tried in simple mode and got the same fail at the same step.

Thanks!
David

http://www.modmyi.com/wiki/index.php/Pwnage_2.x_Guide_3G

On the bottom of the page:

"NOTE - the DevTeam states: ‘Simple Mode’ in PwnageTool currently only works for the iPod Touch. To use PwnageTool for iPhones you will need to use ‘Expert mode’. This is a workaround while we make an update and fix this issue. In order to do this you will need to navigate to the ‘General’ window and change two things: Deselect ‘activate’ ONLY if you are normally able to activate through iTunes (but if you wish to ‘hacktivate’ the iPhone using PwnageTool then leave it selected). You will also need to change the partition size to about 1000MB (type in the value or use the slider)."

Hopefully that will fix the issue for you. :)

I connect to iTunes at least twice a day. Should I choose activate of hacktivate? Can you link me to a page that will explain the difference? Also , where is the general button and screen? The link says I should increase my parition size if I want to download themes and apps. I just want to download themes. What should I do?

Thanks!
David

quickpwn 2.2

dude u need to use quickpwn 2.2. do a search on goodle for iphone1,2_2.2 ipws becuase you need the right firmware. Then continue along through the instructions this should work. It took me 2week to figure this out as i tried downgrading back to 2.1 as i jailbroke that with ease when i first got my phone but would not downgrade for some reason and when it finally did 2days ago i had no reception at all. So i did restored with 2.2 and tried this adn it worked. i have the files if you want pm me and we can organise something otherwise good luck.

I have QuickPwn 2.2 and Pwnage Tool 2.2. I have tried both. As I said in my first thread, my iPhone was stuck rebooting for over 2 hours when I used QuickPwn. The .ipsw that I have is called iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77.ipsw. Can you please PM me any files that I am missing. That is the only one I have. Please help me out and thank you so much!

David

It's probably best to get it into DFU mode and do a normal restore through iTunes, if you can. Then start again with Pwnage and follow the iClarified tutorial. It does suggest you need to increase the partition size to around 700.

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1558

I have found iClarified to be really good, though I have not followed this tutorial myself, as I have a 2G.

Hope that helps.
