I recently opened my itunes library that I have on a portable external hard drive. I made/built the library on my desktop with itunes that comes with mavericks OS.

I then open the library on my laptop with itunes in mojave OS from my external hard drive.

I then plug the hard drive back into my desktop and get the message that the library cannot be opened because it was made by a newer version of itunes. They are all now unreadable on my desktop.

Are itunes libraries locked into only one computer and OS?

I would like to be able to read and open my library on more than one computer.

I'm going to -guess- that if you've "updated" your iTunes library by running it on a Mac using Mojave, that it may no longer be "openable" when running an older version of the OS -- like Mavericks.

Again... a guess... but if you update the other computer to Mojave as well, then the library will be usable on both of them.

Might be a couple of things going.

First, as previously mentioned, version mis-match is a very real possibility.

But another thing to look at: authorizing both computers. Can have up to five computers authorized for your iTunes account, and might be running into a snag with only one of the computers being authorized.

Ok, thanks for sharing that, where do I go to look for this?
