i can receive sms when my mobile is on,

but i just found out that i can not receive sms when its power off.

at first some friends asked me why did not reply msgs...later i did a test,

i power off my iphone 3gs ,and send a sms from another phone, then i switch my phone on, waited for about 5 mins, sms did not come, then i use that mobile phone sent another sms, then sms receive immediately. so the second msg sent later was delivered while the first did not get, i assume i lost the first msg.

i wonder its a common bug with 3.0 firmware or its the problem of my service provider? please hlep me. coz sometimes i lost some important msgs

Well, logically, I think it must be your phone company that is at fault here.

If the phone is powered off and not connected to the network, the SMS server should hold the message and then send it some time after your phone reconnects. It the phone is on and connected, it should send it straight away.

So it sounds like the network is not holding the message after it fails to find your phone, either that or its "on hold" message system is not tying the message up to your phone when you reconnect.

I don't think it can be a firmware fault if the phone isn't even on when the SMS is sent.

You could check that one way or the other by putting your iPhone SIM in another phone and trying the same test.

If you get the same behaviour with another phone and your SIM report it to the phone company.
