Hello folks,

I finally made the jump from Verizon to AT&T with the launch of the 3G iPhone on Saturday (7/12). I ported my number from Verizon. After a couple hours, my iPhone was fully activated and I could make and receive calls no problem. My texting, to this morning, remains an issue, however.

I can send to any carrier, no problem.
I can receive from AT&T customers, no problem.
I cannot receive texts from other carriers.

I went in to the AT&T store yesterday and asked them about Verizon specifically, since that composes a good 95% of the texts I receive, and they told me it may be something that Verizon needs to do to complete the port. Not to be deterred, I asked them if I could borrow their phone book and called Verizon on the spot. They said they had no remnants of my account in their system, and that as far as they were concerned, the number was fully ported. They did mention that a different company is responsible for porting SMS and MMS services, by the name of Mobile-365, but that only the receiving carrier (AT&T) would be able to contact them as to the port.

I relayed this information to my AT&T rep at the store, and he called AT&T customer service on the spot for me, who in turn said that the techs were aware of an issue with porting SMS/MMS service to the iPhone, that they were working on it, but that there was no ETA.

My question is, has anybody else had this trouble, and if they did, is there anything I can do to hasten the arrival of a solution? It's killing me not getting my texts!

Thanks,
Sean

Well it's not killing me to not get texts, but I had always received texts from MLB.com on final scores of A's games. I never received the last two games before the break via text. So maybe the two are related (formerly Verizon as well)

I sent and received about a dozen or so texts from my brother last night without any problem. He is on Verizon.

When you initially port from Verizon over to AT&T, it may take up to 4 days for the text messaging to work correctly. When I ported mine over last year, it took 2 days for it to work right. There is a known issue where they have to change a setting on the AT&T end before it works.

If you google your issue, you should be able to find out what that issue is, and you can call AT&T and have them correct it. Otherwise, sit tight for a few days and it will fix itself.

Well, today will be day 4, so I suppose I'll give AT&T CS a call after I get off work.

Is there a number to go straight to Tech Support, or do i have to go through the generic Customer Service number?

i had the same issue. i had to call att porting and activation and then they had to call the 3rd party company "Verisign" up who deals with rerouting your messages from verizon to att. they just simply need to change some settings.

had same problem also... also porting from verizon. Just wait a couple days and it'll be fine. Got iPhone on launch day had to call cs on sat as voice calls were not coming through, they did something, phone calls worked fine both ways, and txt didn't fully work till sunday night. Now everything works well... just wait and everything will eventually work, it was frustrating though...

I receive some texts but not all from Verizon. It's kind of driving me crazy. I ported last Friday, it should be fine now. I called ATT and they did something, and told me to call back if it wasn't fixed. I don't think they really had any idea what was going on. I will call them again, but if they can't fix it I may just get rid of the $5 text plan altogether. It's already a rip off, and if it doesn't work, what's the point.

Just wanted to give you guys an update on my own status:

I called ATT Customer Service and the rep had me go through a few things that didn't work, so finally forwarded me to Tech Support. My TS representative determined that my internal routing number was not the same as my external routing number, which is apparently a porting issue. He put me on hold for a few minutes, during which he called the Verisign team to resolve the issue. After he came back, he had me contact a friend to try texting me again and it worked like a charm.

So, I'd say if you've waited a few days, that's enough of the waiting game. Get on the horn with CS.
