I have a 2015 MacBook Pro OS Monterey 12.7.5. Recently I have been having a scanning issue with my HP ink jet printers (both). I can no longer scan to my computer wirelessly. When opening the Mac scanning function from “System Preferences”, “Printers & Scanners”, “scan”, “open scanner”, the screen normally showing me the pre-scanned image momentarily flashes then disappears. This screen normally offers a range of customizable scanning options (scope of scan, dpi, destination, format, etc.). Accordingly, I cannot utilize wireless scanning on the HP printers which offer this capability. I actually dumped my HP 8725 for a new 9135e thinking the issues were with the old 8725, but it is clear it is with my MacBook. Any ideas?

Not an answer to your specific HP question, but it could help.

In my use of Monterey, even last year, I typically scanned from Apple's Preview app, IIRC. I think the command is under the File menu, Import from Scanner.

I recall as well having to update my Brother printer's scanning software to get scanning to work. Maybe HP has a driver update.

At one point, I also installed a generic CUPS printer driver, which provided more printing options and got the scanning restarted, again, IIRC!

In any case some options!

Install the latest HP Smart app from the Mac App Store. Review your printer's set up in the HP Smart app. Then open Image Capture app. Your HP printer scanner should appear in the left sidebar of Image Capture app.

All my wireless printer functions work, except scanning. HP Smart says: ”feature is not supported by the selected printer. Connect to a different printer”. HP Easy Scan says: “Scanner reported an error. Failed to open a connection to the device”.

Install the latest HP Smart app from the Mac App Store. Review your printer's set up in the HP Smart app. Then open Image Capture app. Your HP printer scanner should appear in the left sidebar of Image Capture app.
HP Smart says: ”feature is not supported by the selected printer. Connect to a different printer”.
BTW: What is the "Immage capture app"?

Image Capture is an Apple app, part of your system. It is located in your Applications folder, and is an alternative to using HP's Easy Scan.
Open the Image Capture app, then the Help menu for more info.

Thanks. Found Image Capture. It recognized the hp printer. Next saw "waiting for scanner; then "Failed to open a connection to this device" Other wireless capabilities work; wireless printing, printing from my cell phone.

Yes. This has been my work-around. With a Flashdrive in the printer I can get the unit to scan and send the file to the Flashdrive utilizing the printer option. I then can transfer the Flashdrive to the MacBook. However, I have no pre-image of the image to work with before formally scanning. I cannot crop, enhance the scan to 1200 dpi (600 max), change file type, etc.

Someone in another forum had luck after disabling IPv6 networking from the printer admin web page. You should be able to get to the printer admin web page from the HP Smart app.

Sometimes macOS and printers/scanners act very strange. The best thing is to never ever install any software for those things.

I have a Brother All-in-One laser printer and scanner since a few months.

Everything just worked after I only connected it via Ethernet to my router. It was just there on my Mac even an extra one for fax because I connected a second cable too to a phone port on the router.

Then I installed the recommended software from the AppStore and after that macOS couldn't find the whole thing any more only that app did and I had to print everything from there by choosing the file to print.

I deinstalled it and still nothing worked. I connected via USB directly to my Mac and it worked again.

Somehow I got it to work again via Ethernet connected to my router with entering an IP address manually on the printer.

That was very strange.
