I have searched these and other forums for a solution to this problem without success:
Whenever I am logged in to my company LAN locally, I can use Apple remote desktop to control every machine on the network. However, when I VPN into the network using either L2TP or PPTP away from the offices, I can control only the server. None of the other machines is visible, and I cannot add them.
I am on the same classs C network as the company (192.168.1.xxx) ,using dhcp on my home network, giving me addresses 60-65, so as not to overlap with the dhcp range at the company's office.
I have tried other subnets (10.0.0.xxx, and 192.168.2.xxx). When I do this, I can't even connect to (or see) the server over ARD.
I have a Macbook running 10.6.1 using VPN to connect to os x server 10.5.3 (Leopard). The VPN connect quickly and is stable.
When I first installed ARD on my laptop and tried to connect locally, I got a message saying that I needed to update ARD, which I did, and I now see that it is version 3.3

Has anyone experienced similar problems, and if so, can you please tell me what you did to resolve it?

Many thanks

Mihai

Change your home subnet. You don't want the subnets overlapping at all (it's not just the DHCP scopes at play here).

If you can get on the Internet, then you should be able to VPN to work from home. You need to make sure you change the router IP as well when you do this conversion.

Unless I have misunderstood you, I have tried this already, as detailed in my first post.
Have I misunderstood?

Well, I tried changing the subnet again, but when I do it becomes impossible to access even the server over VPN. Using the same (192.168.1.xxx) I am able to see and control the server, but still not able to see any other machines on the network. The only time I can see the other machines is when I am logged on locally, but thanks for your reply

Then your VPN configuration on the server is not correct or your router configuration is not correct.

I have changed my subnet a few times and it has never impacted my ability to connect over a VPN.

Quite right, thank you, thank you!

You were quite right. My reason for not seeing them was that they don't pop up automatically; they have to be specifically identified by their ip address to be seen. So thanks for your input everyone. Sorry I was a bit slow on the uptake!

What about for those do NOT want to access their devices via IP address?
Otherwords, would be nice to see all clients on my LAN AS IF i was physically on my LAN
