My mailbox was flooded with spam, pornographic ads that were worsened
by a bug (?) that re-sent the same mail 3-4 times to the same mail recipients.
I downloaded and installed/run a trial-ware anti-spam software.
From that moment, I could receive no mail at all.
Un-installing the offensive software did not help and the “Go online” in “Mailbox” reverted immediately to “Off-line”.
In one of the Mac/help/for "newbies" like myself/forums, I was advised to trash the “com.apple.mail.plist” and restart the computer.
I did exactly that. This however, changed my e-mail address from syrose@netvision.net.il to syrose@mac.com.
(I don't mind and even like it).
However, this e-mail address does not accept/recognize my password so I cannot receive mail.
At this stage, none of my e-mail addresses is functional.
I also please, please need genuine advice to help me to:
(i) Regain access to my previous (hopefully still
functional) e-mail address.
(ii) Retrieve/import previously received and sent mail.
Please, I am lost and need step-by-step instructions.
I apologize if you receive this mail more than once.

I think the problem here might be that after you trashed the preferences, you had to re-enter your account info. What you didn't notice is that you had to select which kind of account you wanted to create. It is preset to a .Mac account, so when you entered your data, it created a @mac.com adress.

Check your account and set it to POP or whatever you use.

Just an idea...

Just to say thank you.
The "issue" is currently examined by the local Internet
Provider Service.
So I better wait.
Thanks once again
