I bought an Apple Watch series 1 and I've enjoyed it thoroughly except for one issue: I cannot send SMS messages from the Apple Watch. I can send and receive iMessages without issue. I even receive SMS messages without issue. I've tried unpairing, erasing and setting up the Watch as new several times. I even toggled iMessages button on my phone several times as wel as signing back into iCloud on iPhone. I rebooted phone and watch several times. I also tried toggling send as SMS button in phone settings a few times.

NOTHING HAS WORKED!

Can someone offer a solution to my SMS reply problem on my watch. If I can't resolve this issue soon I will most certainly return phone.

Note, I am running iOS 10.1 on my iPhone 6s and watchOS 3.1 on Watch

Thanks

Have you looked at the settings in iPhone? Settings/messages/send as SMS

On  watch settings: messages/ mirror iPhone

Two work around a for this.

1, toggle iMessage off on your phone (reboot both iPhone and watch) and try sending SMS from your watch. If it goes through then turn iMessage back on and you should be ok from there on in.

2, toggle send as SMS off reboot your devices then toggle it back on.
