Cannot text forward SMS to new IPAD Pro 10.5

I recently bought a new Ipad Pro 10.5 and am having trouble forwarding SMS text messages to it. When I go to my iphone text message forwarding settings original IPAD from many years ago and second IPAd show up but not newest. Both are on the same wifi network and under my user ID. I tried resetting both phone and ipad to no avail. Any ideas? It is still working fine on second (older) ipad.

Check on your iPhone to ensure text message forwarding is on. If so, sign out of iCloud on both devices and login again. Just a thought

When I go to sign out, it says I'm going to lose all my data or something to that effect. What exactly does that mean?
