Except that I am on WiFi. This is only happening on my iPad. Phone, Mac, and Watch all updated no problem.

Anyone else seen this? As you can see from the icon in the upper right - full WiFi.

I have the same problem, can’t to a backup to iCloud either.
If I activate a guest network on my router updates and backups works again.
I have a ASUS router

I have it on both iPhone and iPad last backup was from same date, so it hard to believe it should be hardware. Watch and Mac fine on the same network

I'm having the same issues with my iPhone and iPad on an Asus Router RT-AX88U. Unable to update or do iCloud backups.

I have the same router, ended up resetting the router and creating my WiFi with a new name, reset and same name didn’t work.
it’s like all apple devices didn’t like that WiFi in some way, my Mac wouldn’t sync photos from iPhone and iPad.

Also having the same problem with the RT-AX88U.
Will try to play around with some settings first.

Found this on the ASUS Forum and it seems to fix it:
"Steps needeed: 1. disable agile multiband 2. Go to WiFi settings on ios device and forget the WiFi network 3. Join network again"

Personally i only had to Reboot the iPhone after disabling "Agile Multiband" on the Router. I did not have to remove the WiFi Network.

(Agile Multiband can be found in the Wireless Settings)

I tried to disable agile multiband, but not sure I tried to forget WiFi or reboot while it was disabled. But thanks for the info nice to know if the problem comes back.

Same router same problem.

Tried it. Didnt work.

The other odd thing that started happening with iOS 14.5 is App updates ask if I want to download over ellular despite being on WiFi with cellular being disabled/turned off.

I have the same router, RT-AX88U, with no problems. I have about 5 2.4 only devices and 5+ 5ghz devices.
On the 2.4 band I turned "802.11ax / WiFi 6 mode" mode off, but left it on in the 5ghz band.
You might try turning that off and give it a try.

Had to do stages 1, 2 and 3 and it worked for me.

Many thanks!

Restart made it work. Odd. Issue escalated to Apple engineer. Imo this is on Apples side. Started with 14.5, continued thru 14.6. Everything was working fine before it. Hope they can fix soon.

My 2018 IPP, 2021 12.9 & 11 IPP and daughters 4th gen iPad were all affected by this, so it seems to be iPadOS specific. No issues with iPhone or MBP but it might not hurt if Apple validates the issue doesn’t exist with MacOS and iOS.

I was curious if problems were on current firmware and when started with iPad OS update. Looks like mine needs updated.
I tried with a downgrade to the router firmware from January and it didn’t fix the problem for me.

Just for clarity.
WiFi Symbol at the top right indicates WiFi signal strength ONLY.
You may be connected to your router, but your router may not be connected to internet.

I see that was not the case for you, just wanted to be clear to all others that read this.

For me it could do the search for and find the update, but not download the update and everything else on the internet was working, WiFi only iPad so no fallback to cellular in play.

Mine is cellular so I get the fallback message.

I haven’t had any luck with Asus. Seems to be unique to their routers and iOS 14.5. Has anyone else tried reporting and resolving with Asus?

I got to an Apple engineer trying to figure this out. They researched and said this was an Asus problem.

I have a different ASUS router and I had a pop up the other day in the app that recommended updating the firmware using a computer, specifically because of iOS issues. I had coincidentally updated just before upgrading and didn’t have any issues upgrading.
