my uncle is giving me his canon g5, says its one of the best cameras he's ever had, now I'm no expert on these things so just want some thoughts??
is it a good camera??? does it take video clips which I can easily transfer to my mac and use with imovie???
any other advice????

Your uncle is right. One of canon's best. It does RAW format but video is low-res by today's standards.

Yes, although the video isn't very hi-res.

As for it being a good camera, yes, it's an excellent camera--especially if you're interesting in learning about photography. It has a pretty fast lens (2.0, which is darn good for a P&S) and complete manual controls.

I've taken a few videos with it and their not very good but the photos are excellent, think ill get one of those cheap hd recorders for my videos and keep the camera for the photos!!
