Canon iP8500 Printer - anyone own it?

well i have a 4000 and its a pretty good printer for small prints...go to the i9900 if you are doing anything serious in photos. Picoliter size has alot to do with all of it too. Kinda funny to see a 1D mkII hooked up to that printer in the picture...!
The 8500 and the 9900 have a lot in common and I love my 9900. It seems that the $150 difference isn't that much considering the ability to use 11x17 and 13x19 paper. Of course, with the 8500, you have automatic duplexing and that sounds great.

THank you for your replies. After a litte more research - I found the iP6600 - among Canon's new releases in Aug.
It gives the 1 pico liter drop size and has many of the specs for the IP8500 but is only 6 color. Still with a dual paper tray, card and camera slots and 3.5 inch screen. It was $175 after $25 rebate. So I felt it was worth a try.
I really only do 8X10 tops and printed out some AMAZING quality prints right out of the box. So I'm going to keep it. (It also used the Mac Spec 10.4.X and while I'm sure even those models whose outside the box spec sheet stop at 10.3 work fine... my epson 875 never did work 'right' after the upgrade to X - so.... that helped me mentally a bit)
I really wanted to get an 8 color printer. But given it was so cheap - I figured I could wait and save the cash towards a better than 4MP camera first. I'm aiming for 8+ MP with the next round of price drops.
Compared to my 875 Epson Photo the iP6600 is awesome! A great cheaper alternative.
Had Best Buy stocked the iP8500... this follow up might be slightly different...

Just got the iP6600D (had the i960) two weeks ago and it's been great for me. The colors match very close to what is on my iMac screen and that feature of transfering photos to a memory card from my iMac is a nice feature (better than putting it on a cd to bring to someones house).

hmm im curious though about all the new inks coming out from canon and epson...my 2200 is showin some age...maybe time to step up to the plate and drop some for a 4000 on the epson side...or who knows...its a constant battle with printing...heck...ive gotten some good prints from sams club!

Glad you like the new one. I think anyone should be quite happy with any Canon printer $100 and up.
Well, Best Buy wouldn't likely have something that pricey but occasionally they will and then, end up closing it out because their customers don't usually buy that sort of merchandise.
I tried an Epson Stylus Photo printer years ago and the colour was completely overwhelmed by Magenta regardless of settings. All of them I've seen have been this way and it's been noted in various design magazines as well. How the standard Stylus Color printers don't do it is beyond me but they're closer to the Canon printers in colour balance but without the glossy finish.
