I have downloaded the EOS UTILITY and also the firmware update file to my downloads folder. the camera is connected to the computer and I get to where the instructions to update the firmware directs me to locate the file. When I select the download file the file I need plus all other files are greyed out.I don't understand why, could I move it elsewhere to access it.
thanks in advance.

Open the r7 dmg, the firmware file is inside it, it ends with .FIR

You can also just copy the firmware file to the SD card and skip using the EOS utility, which may be easier if you have an SD card reader.
